Vasfije Krasniqi: It's depressing, only one convicted of sexual assault.

Krasniqi says women and men surviving the crime have neither the courage to apply for recognition of status, fearing they will be identified.

The first woman to speak publicly of sexual rape says that she is convinced that she will never enjoy justice. Yet, she says that she has the strength to raise her voice for other survivors.

24 years after the end of the war, Vasfija cites the fact that he is only one convicted of sexual rape in Kosovo. It stresses that this is depressing for victims, who one day await justice in their case.

The date she experienced the horror, April 14, is now officially known as the Day for the Survival of Sex Violence.

Vasfia, who at the time she was violated in 1999, shows that there are many other girls who were treated much younger than she was.

I've been 16 years old since I was nine, seven years old, but didn't survive the violence and she's dead. The confessions are terrible”, she adds.

Speaking of recognition of the status of victims of sexual violence, Krasniqi says many of the survivors have faced rejection by the government Commission for recognition and verification of the status of violent persons during the Kosovo liberation war.

Krasniqi, who has confessed her story even before the US Congress, claims that women still face the stigma that they will identify themselves.
