The flames were spotted as they left the plane, forcing the pilots to cancel the lift and evacuate the passengers.
An airport spokesman told the German newspaper that a bird hit triggered engine lighting.
Arsenal has confirmed that no one was hurt in the incident and thanked the staff at Wolfsburg Airport in Brownschweig for their assistance.
