So the Ukraine Attorney General's Office said on March 3rd. This office said that Loboda's bombing of civilian targets east of Ukraine, the Harkive region, in March 2022, had destroyed a broadcast centre that had not been used for any military activity.
The Russian pilot was caught after his plane crashed by Ukrainian armed forces.
Geneva conventions and additional protocols formed by international courts say the parties involved in a military conflict should distinguish between “civilian targets and military targets”, and that attacks on civilian objects are prohibited.
This ban is also codified in the Rome statue of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which earlier this year opened an investigation into possible war crimes in Ukraine.
When Russia began its full - scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, it triggered the biggest military conflict in Europe since World War II. This conflict overturned the lives of millions and caused mass destruction, which is continuing today.
