Ukraine's military said Russia launched 81 rockets in cities across the country, with eight drones involved. It claimed it successfully fired 34 cruise missiles and four Shahed drones produced by Iran.
Emergency services at Kiev are located on scenes of explosions in the capital's western and southern neighbourhoods, where the mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, said the blasts had occurred.
Klitschko said cars were burning in the courtyard of a residential building, and he urged people to stay in shelter. Most of the city has remained without electricity, with four out of 10 people without power, he added.
A massive missile attack hit an energy facility in the port city of Odessa, causing power outages, said his governor, Maksym Marchenko. The inhabited areas were also hit, but no victims were reported, he added.
“Around 15” attacks hit the city and the Kharkiv region, with “critical infrastructure objectives” and a residential building targeted, said regional administration chief Oleg Synegubov, the BBC reports.
In western Ukraine, at least five people were killed in Lviv after a rocket hit their home, said region governor Maksym Kozytskyi on Telegram.
One person has died and two others have been injured in the wake of fears and rocket attacks in the Dnepropetrovsk region, according to Governor Serhii Lysak.
