Austrian Eurodeput, Lucas Mandl, has welcomed the European Union Council of Ministers' decision following the adoption of the decision regarding visa liberalisation for Kosovo.
However, Mandl considers this step very late.
This is too late, but we have reason to be happy. But we also have to ask ourselves why some decisions that make life better for many people and would not hurt anyone sometimes last so long in the EU. We must overcome such ideological approaches. Let's serve Europe and Europeans”, Mandl wrote.
The European Union's Council of Ministers approved the final decision on abolishing visas for Kosovo citizens.
Under rules published by the European Parliament, visa liberalisation for citizens means they will have time to stay 90 days in the Schengen Zone in the 180-day period.
That decision comes into force on January 1, 2024.
Kosovo has made major moves to improve its security in managing migration and adopting its visa policy with that of the EU.
So said Swedish Minister for Migration Maria Malmer Stenergard.
It is already left to the European Parliament to take the final step about lifting Kosovo's visas.
