And after he retired from the active jungle in 2021, she began her coach's voice.
The 31-year-old girl, in an interview with the official website of the Olympics, has talked about her new experience and her goals in this direction, follows “Gazeta Express”.
But she first spoke of the fame she enjoys in her country, Kosovo.
My population is still the same. Perhaps people remember and respect me very much because I was the first to win any title for the sport”, says first the Olympic champion in “Rio 2016” and twice the world champion.
There were some memorable moments in my career, and that's probably why people would never forget me”, she continued.
She admits that she lacks the fact that she will no longer compete after she closed her career because of injuries.
I sometimes miss racing after I could have competed for maybe two or three years. But my body couldn't handle the jungle anymore. Even though I want to practice, my body is no longer listening to me... ”, adds Majlinda, who has suffered from back pain, which has left her uncomfortable since 2015.
She talks about her new life as a coach, which she began right after she retired.
I decided to be a coach, I think, before I finished my career. I liked to be a coach because when I'm in Tatam, it doesn't matter where, I feel good, I'm myself”, she underlined, I follow “Gazeta Express”.
Majlinda admits that this new experience is not easy because the coach's work is 24/7.
When you're a sportsman, you think of yourself: you exercise, you do your best, and that's all. And as a coach, you need to deal with different personalities and adapt to them, you can't treat everyone the same way. It's also a big responsibility because everyone expects me to be good and successful, just as I was like a jungle. So it was a tough time, but I finally found a way to train with racers. Sometimes I find the coach's work harder than the racer's”, Majlinda, who still considers herself a coach's assistant, said away.
I thought I'd have more time after I retired, but it's totally different because I'm working with kids now with screws, junitors and seniors. And, I travel a lot, but that makes me happy”, Kelmendi adds, who is grateful for everything to her coach and now colleague Driton Kuka.
He's the boss, I'm here to help him in everything, depending on what he and the team need. Most of the time I work in the Judo exercises”, Majlinda explains.
Kosovo, along with the International Judo Federation, has honoured Majlinda with a statue located in Pec, follows “Gazeta Express”.
And she certainly feels very happy about this gift and the gratitude her country gave her.
That makes me very proud. Imagine how many jungles are in the world and they decided to make my statue in my country”, Majlinda concluded, which aims as a coach to win Olympic medals with her racers and racers.
