A woman who is said to be the oldest person in the world has died in South Africa at 128 years of age after living three different centuries.
The mother of seven children, Johanna Mazibuko, died at her home on March 3rd and would have been 129 years old in May, according to local reports.
She had identity documents proving that she was born on May 11, 1894, and grew up on a corn farm. She never went to school and couldn't read or write.
Speaking of Nea24, her manager, Thanidawe Wessiya, said Mazibuko may have died of a stroke.
Mazibuko said on her 128th birthday: “I am surprised why I am still here after so many years. Why am I still here? The people around me are dead.
When will I die? What does it mean to be alive? The world tired me because I'm sitting here doing nothing”, she said.
She also had 11 brothers and sisters, three younger men are still alive.
We lived so well on farms. Then there were no problems. I don't remember my childhood very well, but I remember a locust infection. There were those we could catch and eat. It was like eating meat. We'd just fry them and eat them ourselves. I grew up healthy, eating mostly fresh milk and wild spinach. Now eat modern food. I'm used to it, but I miss the food I grew up with”, she said.
She married an older Romana Mazibuko widow, but she cannot remember when.
They had 7 children, two of whom are still alive, and there are over 50 grandchildren.
Mazibuko survived both World Wars and two global pandemics ( COVID-19 and Spanish flu).
