The opposition accuses power: In two years of VV) governance, there's a health sector degradation

Opposition parties in the Kosovo Assembly consider that the Kurti Government, in two years of power, has not held health priorities. According to them, for these two years there have been only changing ministers and massive escapes of health workers.

PDK deputies LDK and AAK told Online Economy that capital investments have been lacking in health. Also, within two years, no substantial law for the health sector has been brought to the Assembly by the Government, including the promised Health Strategy.

Democratic Party of Kosovo deputy (PDK), Bekim Haxhiu, has said that despite promises of high expectations, degradation has occurred in health. \

Haxhiu, who is a doctor by profession, has said that for these years many health professionals have fled abroad and the trend is only deepening, while citing a lack of health insurance.

If we go back and look at the promises given to the health sector and what has been done, or rather say what has not been done in the health sector, we have a degradation of this sector within these two years. None of the Government's promises in the health sector have been realised; there is no reform, there is no support for health professionals, we have their departure from the public sector in the private sector and from Kosovo abroad”.

There are no health insurance. Within two years, no fundamental health sector law has been brought to the Assembly by the Government; The Government's promised Health Strategy has not been brought to the Assembly at all so far, nor has any initiative been taken to have a strategy adopted at least in Government”, Haxhiu told EO.

Haxhiu has also mentioned high figures on patients' waiting lists at SKKUK clinics. He says that earlier in many clinics it was zero.

“We have reports of audiences that identify millions of euros in abuse and abuse. Even some of the clinics that operated successfully and had good results also degraded”.

The waiting list in Cardiology was 0 days, in Radiology also was 0 days, while the waiting lists are now more than a year. In the case of Oncology, which was a clinic that actually managed well during the pandemic and was a success story, in recent years, 2022 and 2021, this clinic for several months did not provide services because there were inflows within the clinic, and lists of waiting also grew from”, Haxhiu says.

Democratic League of Kosovo MP (LDK), Armend Zemaj, has said the government has intervened in selecting directors in clinics.

Former Health Minister has said that even at the time of pandemic, waiting lists have been zero, while now they are longer than a year. The heart has also mentioned a breakdown in Oncology.

It's a management issue, it's an intervention in the selection of clinic directors. For example, there are times when the waiting list in a clinic has been zero, with the arrival of new guidance, this figure has reached alarming expectations for patients and citizens. Even though it has been a year of pandemic, it's been possible for waiting lists to be reduced somewhere, and they've achieved efficient and additional jobs not to say 24 hours, and on Saturday and Sunday, so that only citizens and patients will suffer.”

While Alliance for the Future of Kosovo deputy (AAK), Shemsedin Dresaj, even this professional doctor, criticises the frequent change of health ministers.

This government actually proved that it never had a health priority. We've been faced with the frequent change of ministers, with capital investments in health, we've been faced with a lack of reform, lack of health laws, and all of this has done since then in the absence of a health salary law, and all of this has brought about the situation of losing hope in populations and doctors in particular”.

“What happened last year, when more than 200 doctors yesterday, 640 nurses have released Kosovo, while this trend has no tendency to decline after publicising the salary cofficiency. 31 We have doctors in 35 days that this year have released Kosovo”, Dresaj said.
