President Joe Biden and his closest advisers are warning Israel that it will become increasingly difficult to realise the military goals in Gaza because of the worldwide response to the suffering of civilians there.
US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin and the State Secretary Antony Blinken have made this message clear in private conversations with Israeli officials, saying that losing support will have serious strategic consequences for the Israeli Defence Forces operation against Hamas.
After the scenes, American officials also believe that Israel has limited time available to realise its goals against Hamas, before the international reaction to the consequences to civilians reaches its climax.
In fact, sources tell CNN that this moment can come very soon and pressure on the American government and President Biden to call for ceasefire can be very high.
On the ground, there is no indication that Israel's military operation is slowing down. Two people aware of the event told CNN that the Biden administration was particularly placed in a difficult position following this week's bombings in a refugee camp in northern Gaza and the publication of death scenes and destruction there.
The problem for Israel is that criticisms are growing, even from the line of closest friends”, an administration official told CNN.
American officials insist that Biden has not set any red lines for Israel, and so far, the White House has barely avoided calling for a ceasefire, saying it would give time to Hamas' terrorists to reshuffle for other operations.
But Beden has told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during the 10 calls they have had so far that endless images of Palestinian children and women derived from the ruins can narrow Israel's path. In conversation with Netanyah, Beden has warned that Israel will be judged harshly by the international community unless it takes steps to alleviate the suffering of civilians.
Sources told CNN that Biden has also told Natanyah that he is also concerned about the increasing violence the Israelis committed in the West Coast are exercising against Palestinians.
The Biden administration and the president themselves have called on Israel to allow humanitarian pauses and restore certain rights that it has so far removed from the civilian population, such as the internet, fuel and water.
Netanyah is taught that he has persistently rejected some of these rights, publicly stating that there will be no truce unless the hostages Hamas holds in Gaza are freed.
Pentagon officials believe Israel is accurately hitting Hamas' bases, but remain concerned that the number of victims from the ranks of civilians is huge. /a2cn
