Council of Europe President Charles Michel said that European Union enlargement will make the EU safer and more advanced, but will also ensure stability and peace for Balkan countries.
Upon arriving in Zagreb, where he will talk to the prime ministers of Croatia, Malta, Poland and Italy, Michel stressed that it is necessary for EU members to achieve unity on strategic issues.
During the past week, the European Commission recommended that Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova and Ukraine begin negotiations on EU membership. Georgia was also recommended to receive membership candidate status.
In mid-December, EU leaders must decide whether to accept the European Commission's recommendation, Srna reports.
