Elon Musk's social media platform X (former Twitter) was just dealt a serious blow by the European Commission.
The group, part of the European Union, decided that they would no longer show ads on the 52-year-old billionaire Space X and Tesla platform.
They explained why during a press conference, promoting an answer from the X platform.
“We have seen an alarming increase in deninforms and hate speech on several social media platforms in recent weeks, and X is certainly quite effective for this”, European Commission spokesman Johannes Bahrke said, via Variety magazine.
Therefore, we have advised services to refrain from advertising at this stage on relevant social media platforms, where we have concerns that such content appears in an inappropriate context and thus affects the effectiveness of our communication and message”.
This does not mean that the European Commission will leave the platform.
This is about advertising, campaigns and advertising spending”, they explained. And for these campaigns, we constantly appreciate the media environment in the function of our communication objectives”.
