Sali Berisha, 79, former prime minister and president of Albania, deputy and leader of the Albanian centre-right, smiles: Do you know Shengjin, where Edi Rama and Giorgia Melon want to create one of the two immigrant centers?
No president.
“In the summer of Shengjin is one of the most frequented countries by Italian tourists and entrepreneurs, this year there was a real boom, hotels and resorts, beaches filled with people. Perhaps Prime Minister Mellon, whom I deeply respect, did so in order for the Italians to return on vacation to Italy...”
This summer in Albania was the Italian prime minister...
It was a great honor for all of us that she came to spend a few days vacation in Albania. And he did very well, in my opinion. Even drinking appetizers with Eddie Rama, but it should've stopped with that.
They called it the hospitality pact.
I have a lot of friends in Forza Italy, in Lega, at Fiterali d'Italia. Even if I don't personally know Giorgia Melon. But, really, in my opinion the agreement on immigrants is very dangerous for many reasons.
Which one?
I'm afraid, for example, that xenophobia can grow, and I wouldn't even like to see street protests against Italy one day. Albania is a host, hospitable country, there is no racism, but it is also a small country, which for this reason fears that the problems that have already been experienced by other countries where these centers were born may also arise in our territory. I think of Germany, Italy itself, where theft and sexual violence occurred. The news, for example, that from Lampeduza will arrive in Albania, only adult male immigrants were met with concern. However, Edi Rama publicly promised only two years ago that our country would never expect immigrants from very wealthy Western states.
He said that he did so only out of a sense of friendship and gratitude to Italy.
Edi Rama thinks only of his power, his interests, I fear he will benefit personally from the economic support coming from Italy. Our Constitutional Court says that to appoint extraterritority to a country, it requires authorisation of the president of the Republic. Edi Rama, on the other hand, has done everything alone, in secret, without a warrant. I hope the Strasbourg Court intervenes and cancels everything.
You say that because Rama is a socialist and you are from the centre-right Democratic Party and you are political opponents?
It's not like that. When I was prime minister, we fought a very tough fight against human traffickers until we got rid of them. Now, with the new government, boaters have returned to our seas, and I would not like these thousands of immigrants coming from Italy to make up a new business. And again: Human rights will be respected in the agreement. But Edi Rama does not respect opposition rights either: I can't leave the country! )
There are serious corruption charges against you, President Berisha.
The charge without evidence, the result of a lobe machine. George Soros is against me.
