Secretary - General NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has described the situation in Kosovo as “very disturbing” following the events of September 24th in the village of Banjska of Zvecan, while ensuring that NATO Forces in Kosovo (KFOR) will preserve peace in the region.
So he said in an interview for the German newspaper “Welt”.
“Situate in Kosovo is a cause for great concern”, Stoltenberg said several days before the NATO defence ministers' meeting in Brussels.
“We will not allow the violence of the 1990s to return”, he stressed.
Stoltenberg has demanded that Kosovo and Serbia return to the EU-brokered dialogue.
This is the only way to achieve lasting peace for all communities”.
In response to the riots, Great Britain increased KFOR's peacekeeping force, which has been led by NATO since 1999, by the current number of about 4,500 soldiers with 200 troops.
