The officer is in serious condition in the intensive therapy department, after the severe injuries sustained during the attempt to kill him.

The Akiki assassination comes amid mounting tensions in the Middle East following the militant group Hamas' attack on Israel last Saturday.
The attack has caused more than 1400 civilian and military casualties, while the Israeli Army has retaliated by conducting air strikes from which more than 2670 victims have been killed so far.
The military has called on Gaza residents to move south as they prepare for land attack in the northern part aimed at annihilation of Hamas.
