German media calling to the AP (Associated Press) report that Serbian military vehicles were seen leaving the border towards central Serbia. Serbia's “Government may have responded to calls for withdrawal”, says the German newspaper Zeit.
At the same time, the newspaper recalls that Kosovo's “government on Saturday announced that it is monitoring the Serbian Army's movement from “to different directions” and that “called on Serbia to ensure deilitarisation of the border zone”.
Media also report that Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq has denied reporting for an added military presence on the border with Kosovo. The one on social networks has been talking about “the lying campaign” against Serbia.
Just hours after these reports, German media report that Bundeswehr is coming as reinforcements to Kosovo.
Germany currently has 85 soldiers in Kosovo.
The mandate, which was last extended from Bundestag in May, predicts that up to 400 Bundesehr soldiers may be on the ground, DW reports.
“Therefore, there is still room for improvement without changing the mandate,” also told Spiegel Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmerman, president of the parliamentary defence committee.
Earlier, the German government warned that tensions could increase, given the apparent increased number of Serbian soldiers on the border with Kosovo. “There should be no further escalation of” between Serbia and Kosovo, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the X (former-Twitter) network announced, and stressed that it is important that Serbia “immediately reduce the number of units at border”.
At the same time, the three ruling German parties -- the Social Democrats (SPD), The Green and Liberals (FDP) -- were declared in favour of strengthening the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo under NATO command. That means establishing the additional forces of the German Bundesehr.
“Germania, in consultation with its allies, should urgently check whether KFOR's mandate has been fully met and sent more soldiers to Kosovo,” Greens politician Anton Hofreiter told Spiegel magazine.
German newspaper Welt broadcasts an interview published by the Roman newspaper “Republica” with KFOR Commander General Michele Rostucci, who, among other things, says: “The only solution is normalisation of relations. There can be no military solution, just political. We soldiers can only create security conditions for dialogue”.
