This text contains general points, similar to reports from past years, but also takes into account developments that have already occurred.
In this draft report, the European Parliament “welcomes Kosovo's application for EU membership, reflecting the pro-European orientation of its citizens and the clear geopolitical definition”.
Kosovo has applied for EU membership in December last year, when Cekya led the bloc, while now the Swedish Presidency is consulting with member states for further steps.
The draft also says that the long-awaited visa liberalisation agreement for Kosovo citizens” is welcomed.
The European Parliament has insisted for many years that visa liberalisation take place as soon as possible.
At the end of 2022, EU member states have finally reached agreement to finalise the visa liberalisation process for Kosovo citizens.
This decision is expected to take effect in January 2024.
