Al Sudan was executed by special forces, which raided a cave complex in a remote mountainous region in an attempt to arrest him.
US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin declared that the leader of the terrorist network was responsible for reinforcement of I SIS in Africa.
He was also one of the architects of the group's global activities.
Analysts say the fact that President Joe Biden sent troops to Somalia and did not use the fears to execute Al Sudan shows his importance.
Details on the type of operation have not been published yet, but “New York Times” has learned that soldiers landed on the ground through a helicopter and that the head of I SIS was killed after a shootout broke out.
The operation comes after President Biden restored several hundred American troops to the country after his predecessor Donald Trump withdrew them.
However, these troops are there to train local security forces, not to conduct operations.
