Russia appoints new army commander to lead the war in Ukraine

Gerasimov replaces Sergei Surovici, who was appointed to this role on October 8th 2022 and stood at the helm of Russian forces during the withdrawal from large areas of the Kherson region.
Surovici will now serve as deputy commander, according to a statement by the Russian Defence Ministry.
The deputy commanders are: Army Air Force Commander General Sergei Surovici, Army Commander General Oleg Saliukov, Army Commander General Oleg Saliuskov, and Deputy Chief of General Staff General Alexey Kim.
According to the Ministry, the changes were necessary because of the reinforced <x0gama of tasks, the necessity of closer co-operation between the services and branches of the Armed Forces, and the improvement of the quality of all types of maintenance and efficiency of the command of armed forces groups. /abc news
