American media are reporting that Central Intelligence Agency Director (CIA) William Burns, has travelled to Ukraine last week to hold secret talks with State President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Neither Zelensky's office nor Ukrainian government officials have publicly commented on the Burns' trip reports.
American dailies The Washington Post and New York Times have said on January 19th that the trip has been made so that Ukrainian officials can inform the Russian Army's intentions in the coming months.
Ukrainian military commanders have publicly warned that Russia may be preparing for a new offensive.
Ukraine itself is believed to be setting ground for its counteroffensive.
Both sides are currently involved in fierce fighting to gain control of Ukrainian towns in the east, including Bahmut and Soledar.
Deputy Director Burns has travelled to Kiev, where he met with Ukrainian intelligence counterparts, as well as with President Zelensky to reconfirm our continued support for Ukraine in defence against Russian aggression”, the Post reported, based on an unidentified American official.
Burns has been given special credit for providing vital information since Russia's war in Ukraine began.
The CIA chief is one of many American officials who traveled to Kiev.
Earlier this week, the Ukrainian capital was: Wendy Sherman, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Colin Kahl US Undersecretary of Defence and Jon Finner, senior national security official at the White House.
This same week, Ukrainian Army Commander General Valery Zalluzny has met with his American counterpart, General Mark Miller in Poland, to discuss more details about the war.
