At first, it was reported that six people were killed in the incident that occurred in the Udmurtia region, but that number has now reached at least 13 people, according to the state news agency.
Russia's Interior Ministry said the attacker later killed himself.
Speaking to the media, the region's governor, Alexander Brechalov, added as an unidentified man entered the school and killed a guard.
