Thirty is the number of competencies that guarantees to the president of Kosovo, the highest judicial act in the country, the Constitution. Among them is the appointment and dismissal of the chief state prosecutor, by the chief of state, with the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council proposal.
After the end of the former head of state's mandate, Alexander Lumez, who had not rarely been criticised for his work, the post of chief prosecutor's first post is exercising Besim Kelmendi.
Meanwhile, on April 6th, the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council has nominated for Chief State Prosecutor Blerim Isufajn. By this date, President Vjosa Oman- Sadriu has not decided on this proposal. Radio Kosovo has asked the President's Office when it is expected that the country's first will make a decision on decreeing Isufaj or not, but despite the insistence of more than 10 days, an answer has been missing.
Despite the fact that there is no specified deadline for the decree of Chief State Prosecutor, lawyer Ehat Miftaraj, from the Kosovo Institute for Justice, tells Radio Kosovo that it is time for the president to decide on the KP proposal.
We, like the IKD, have consistently said it is important to make a proper decision within a reasonable deadline, on the part of the president. We think the time has come when the president would have to make a decision regarding the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council's proposal. Even so, it may be said that the president is still within a reasonable timeline, but this reasonable deadline cannot go to as long as”, he said.
Kosovo Radio has also asked Kosovo's Prosecutorial Council whether there is information from the presidency about when a decision to decree or not is expected to be made by Mr. Isufaj as well as the reasons for his failure to decide so far, but also from this institution, they have not returned.
For the election of candidate for the chief state prosecutor, the KKP had provided monitoring criticism of this process from civil society and international factor. But these were denied by the KKP.
