Three F-2 fighter aircraft from Japan's Air Defense Forces and three German Eurofly aircraft participated in training formation to improve tactical and communication skills. The exercises, which last until Friday, were held at Hyakuri Air Base near Tokyo.
According to the Global Times, analysts said the exercises would help boost Germany's common air fighting capabilities in the Asia-Peace care region.
German Defence Minister Christine Lambrecht told the Japan Times that Berlin will see a continued security commitment in the region.
“The strengthening of the military in the region is increasing, geopolitical tensions are worsening territorial conflicts and the risk of escalation is increasing,” she said. “We are aware that Euro-Atlantic security and Indo-Peacekeeping security are linked. That's why we want to help maintain peace and stability in this important region”, Klonkosova follows. tv
Japan Times also reported that some critics have argued developments in China and North Korea pose little or no direct security threat to Germany. However, Lambrecht said that given the economic and geopolitical importance of the Indo-Peace zone for both Germany and all of Europe, “any conflict there would have a massive impact on Germany, in numerous ways”.
Wednesday's exercises are not Germany's first in the region. The German Air Force took part in military exercises in Australia earlier this month.
