Kosovo is facing a 19.2% inflation rate. So economics expert Safet Gerjaliu told Radio Kosovo, which considers that the hand of the state is necessary in this situation. However, according to him, the package for coping with inflation should be comprehensive.
This package must be in the function of minimising the consequences of the crisis, but the social problem with ad hoc package and such decisions is not resolved. There's got to be tests and packages like this, there's got to be this whole, non-participative approach. We should applaud any initiative that is in favour of citizens even though the needs of citizens are not only in economic terms but also in emotional and social terms, which is seen as having no real communication and dialogue”, Gerjaliu said.
In this package, according to Gerjaliu, the private sector should be involved, which made the state consumption budget. And Kosovo Business Alliance Chairman Agim Sahini said the government must have another strategy to deal with inflation.
But what Kosovo can and should do is to increase its investment capacities in the productivity sector, so that we depend more on local production. To increase the possibility of new employment, to invest in capital-generating projects, and all this will reduce inflation, which is the highest ever in Kosovo. The government has no strategy to face inflation”, he added.
In support of citizens, in the coming months, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo will allocate about 150m euros for “Pakon for confronting Inflation”. In this package for public officials, the government will allocate 50 euro extensions, starting in September, while for public enterprise workers it will allocate a very immediate 100 euros. Businesses that raise workers ' wages will also be supported by subsidizing 50 %s of salary growth for three months. Of 100 euros, students will also receive.
