(4 years ago)The Western Balkan countries must be part of the EU”. So said European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen, in her speech at the 17th edition of the Black Strategic Forum 2022 in Slovenia. “
“We have a clear strategic interest for the countries of the Western Balkans to continue and join the EU”, Von der Leyen said, talking about opening the membership negotiations of Albania and Northern Macedonia.
“The prosperity of the Western Balkans is the prosperity of the EU. The stability of the Western Balkans is the stability of the European Union”, she said.
Showing that the EC has launched the plan with a 9 billion-euro financing, with the aim of mobilising about 20 billion euros of investments in the Western Balkans, Von der Leyen said this is why the opening of Albania and Northern Macedonia's membership negotiations is a mileic stone.
