Veton Surroi is once more destroyed by a dream, this time by Edi Rama

Publicist Veton Surroi has pulled his sleeves to become Secretary General of the RCC. For the campaign, it has gone to different countries in the region, both Croatia and Turkey. But, the hurdle on Surroi's road, it has become Albania, Prime Minister Edi Rama, respectively. He has plans for Majlinda Bregu. Surroi hoped in the support that Ali Ahmeti could provide, but this may be on Rama's side.

The Kosovo government selected Veton Surroi as the candidate for the Council for Regional Co-operation Secretary-General (RCC), headquartered in Sarajevo. But Gazeta Express's sources say that Surroi, who is campaigning across the region, is facing the door. Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, is blocking Surroi's election.

As Rama is learning, he is pushing ahead of the continuing agenda of Majlinda Bregu's mandate in the position, which the Kosovo publicist is targeting.

The beach was made of top names on Rama's list for Albania's president. Making Bajram Begjan President, Albania's prime minister seems to want the position of RCC secretary to secure the Coast.

The secretary general, as the statute describes, “should be a powerful political figure from the region, with high skills for interaction with the governments of the region, international partners and institutions, and should have successful commitments for regional co-operation” registered. Those conditions, the Government of Kosovo, have assessed that the renowned publicist meets them.

Meanwhile, Surroi has continued his campaign in the region. In late July, he has also been in Skopje to meet with DUI leader Ali Ahmeti, whose party heads the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Northern Macedonia.

Surroi had gone to Ahmeti's office and DUI had published a video reception for the publicist. Ali Ahmeti went for the guest, but not even to mention his campaign to Secretary of RCC.

But the candidate from Kosovo is taught that Ahmeti's support is not certain because of Prime Minister Rama's influence on him.

Ahmeti announced that Surro, among other things, has talked about infrastructure projects linking Kosovo with northern Macedonia, but that he was not serious about the RCC.

In the course of his campaign in July, Surroi has also moved to Croatia, where, accompanied by Ambassador Martin Berishaj, was hosted by Croatian Chief diplomat Gordan Grliq Radman.

The Kosovo Embassy's announcement in Croatia said that “Veton Surroi unveiled his idea regarding the candidacy for the UN Secretary General's position in the RCC, as well as for Kosovo's strong interest in being a constructive factor in this organisation, which Minister Grliq Radman expressed support in principle”.

Late last month, Surroi, using state infrastructure, the Kosovo Embassy in Ankara, had called on Turkey's Deputy Foreign Minister Faruk Kaymakci.

The “I nominated of the Republic of Kosovo for Secretary General at the Regional Co-operation Council (Regional Cooperation Council) Mr. Veton Surroi made an appointment with Zv. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Faruk Kaymakı. Mr. Surroi presented his plan and vision regarding regional prospects, development projects, the necessity of building harmony and lasting peace for all countries” was said in the Kosovo Embassy's announcement in Ankara.

But, an activity of this kind of Surroi, to seek support in Tirana, so far it hasn't happened or been made public even though Surroi has so far had good ties with politicians in Albania and is a familiar figure there.

What is the RCC?

The RCC is officially launched at the Southeast European Process Foreign Affairs Ministers' meeting (SEECP) in Sofia on February 27, 2008, as the continuator of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe.

The Regional Co-operation Council consists of 46 countries, organisations and international financial institutions. The RCC has a Secretariat based in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is headed by Secretary General Hido Bišević. In addition to the central office in Sarajevo, the Secretariat has an Liaison Office (Liaison) in Brussels near European and Euro-Atlantic institutions

In a brief description of the organisation, published on its site, the RCC reportedly focuses on regional co-operation in Southeast Europe (EJL) through a framework of regional ownership and leadership, which also supports European and Euro-Atlantic integration. The Key Role of The RCC is to generate and co-ordinate development projects, as well as create such a political climate that would enable overall economic and social progress in SEE, from which the entire population in Rajo can benefit

With the RCC Board's decision of February 2013 to approve the organisation's list of members, unlike the previous list, Kosovo's representation in the RCC was decided, no longer to be done with UNMIK's signal.
