The news was delivered by the newspaper La Repubblica after an investigation conducted with the investigative website Bellingcat, the German weekly Der Spiegel and The Insider.
The protagonist of what is described as the “most remarkable intelligence operation” conducted by Moscow in Italy is 30-year-old Maria Adela Kuhfeldt Rivera.
The key “Gymerma linking it to Moscow's secret services, Repubblica explains, is the Russian passport used to enter Italy. It belongs to the same special series used by the GRU, military intelligence under the command of the Kremlin”.
Our investigation failed to find out what information was received from the spy or if it put surveillance devices on her friends' phones and computers. However, it was in touch with key figures in NATO and the American Navy, which no Russian agent had managed to penetrate so deep into the Atlantic Alliance”, the paper writes. / A2 CNN
