Lack of nurses and the time of annual vacations have caused services in some health homes in the Podujevo municipality to be reduced, and sometimes even closed. For their difficulties during the work, nurses at the Podujevo Emergency Centre refused to speak, while the director of family medicine centres in Podujevo, Ymer Llugaliu, has said that years have not opened new competitions for accepting nurses.
“As far as the average staff of nurses is concerned, we have major shortages, since the Ministry of Health removed the 23 nurses we had. Some services are supposed to shut down as an ambulance in Staff, in Halabak and Pole and the same staff, but we should use it for daily services”, Llugaliu said of RTK.
Officials from the Podujevo municipality say they currently have 246 hired nurses, while for opening new contests they have no budgetary opportunity except to replace retired positions. While the chairman of the Infermies' Oda, Naser Rrustemi, says lack of nurses has all public health institutions. He adds that responsible institutions should draft a detailed strategy and increase the number of employed nurses.
The situation is really very serious at all these institutions, at three levels. A fine number of services, perhaps in various workshops or villages, have had to be closed, either because of the lack of nurses but also the doctors, who are on specializations or on annual vacation”, Rrustemi said.
For about 90 thousand people of the Podujevo municipality currently in their service are 93 nurses.
