At least 16 people lost their lives and three others were hospitalised after a truck crashed into a fixed minibus in Russia's Ulyanovsk region on Sunday, local law enforcement forces said.
“According to preliminary data, the leader of a heavy cargo vehicle did not slow the speed in due time and hit a fixed minibus”, the interior ministry of the Ulyanovsk region said in a statement, transmits Telegrafi.
Roadwork at the scene suggested that the minibus was waiting in a row to move, the statement said. “Minibus was embedded between two trucks”, the ministry said.
Russia's Detective Committee has opened a criminal investigation.
The truck driver was reportedly among the victims.
