KAS: Agreement on ID documents, a step towards normalising Kosovo- Serbia

The United States supports the agreement between Kosovo and Serbia on ID documents, a State Department spokesman told Serbian Voice of America service on Monday. According to him, the United States “views the agreement as an important step towards normalising relations based on mutual recognition”. Agreement reached on Saturday [...]
The deal reached on Saturday followed a period of US and European diplomatic efforts to avoid tensions on the ground that erupted on July 31st following Serbian reactions to the government's decision in Pristina that identification documents and license plates issued by Serbia are not valid on Kosovo territory, a move implemented by Belgrade for Kosovo citizens travelling through Serbia in the last ten years.
The achievement of the solution through dialogue is critical for both countries on their way to European integration”, said the State Department spokesman for Voice of America's response.
European Union Foreign Policy chief Josep Borrell said on Saturday that “Serbia had agreed to abolish the entry/alcing documents for Kosovo's identification documents, and Kosovo agreed not to implement them for citizens from Serbia”.
State Department spokesman said that “Based on the commitments of both sides and the hard work of the European Union Special Representative, we encourage Serbia and Kosovo to take an active role and move forward peacefully”.
US, European officials hope Kosovo and Serbia will have a constructive approach to finding a solution even on the issue of car license plates
