The American diplomat said it is important for Serbs to understand who led them in the 1990s and what damage Milosevic did to other peoples in the Balkans.
“E know, I think it's important, just as it is important to stress that I don't want to review in 1999, I think it's important that Serbs remember who led Serbia then and what that person did to other nations in the Balkans. So without that question, it's unequivocal that when you see a place where a bomb fell and where people died, you certainly regret losing people. Of course I feel that and I'm sorry and I feel for the families living on that loss of”, said Hill, broadcast Express.
However, the chief of the US diplomatic mission in Serbia said he does not accept analogy with what is happening in Ukraine and NATO bombings.
But I refuse to do analogy in any way with the brutality and barbarity committed against the Ukrainian people. I would encourage Serbs to keep their memories, but it is important for nation life as such and for the individual to know that there are times when we should move forward, leave the past behind and look forward to the future. I am trying to do this here in Serbia to build US relations with Serbia, I am trying to be honest and clear with the Serbian people. But I think it's important for everyone, especially for people who have had a difficult past like Serbs, which is the time to continue, to worry about the future, about the future of their children and children. I understand the importance of history, but all in this country must see how they will move forward without looking back at”, he said.
