The Kosovo government announces the adoption of emergency measures in energy supply.
This decision was made with the Economic Ministry's proposals during the 91st meeting, held in electronic form Monday.
As reported in the report, the government has taken the decision to announce emergency measures in energy supply, driven by the current world energy situation: the rapid rise in the price of import of energy, as well as the warning of a ban on fossil fuels from several European states that could affect further import price growth.
The seized “measures will remain in force for 60 (tenth) days after approval by the Kosovo Assembly. The Assembly could continue this deadline for successive periods of 30 (thirty) days in majority of the parliamentary deputies present at the session, up to 180 (a hundred and eighty) days.
With the goal of securing enough energy during winter and protecting public interest, emergency measures, among other things, include:
Support measures for citizens with the goal of securing heating during the winter;
Stopting the use of electricity for extracting cryptovalutes;
Supporting Transmission System Operator and Market (KOSTT) to take necessary action in the function of saving the electro-energenetic system safety; and
The measure in saving electricity consumption from all institutions.
At the same time, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, especially the Ministry of Economy, is monitoring the electromagnetic situation in Kosovo and the interventions of the Kosovo Electronic Corporation in preparing thermal power plants for the winter season.
Although thermal power plants are outdated, the KEK management, along with maintenance teams, is making the power blocks' power generated enough to cover local demand. KEK thermals are operating over 80% of the time over a year, which is above the world average of coal thermocontrals. These repairs allow us to keep this high energy generation average and the most regular” supply, says the report.
