German Economy Minister Robert Habeck announced new regulations that will be linked to energy savings due to fears of shortages and are the result of the ban on Russian gas supply due to the war in Ukraine.
Warming in public buildings will be allowed to peak at 19 degrees Celsius, buildings and monuments will no longer be lit during the night, nor will signs be lit, Habeck told the newspaper “SZ”
“More austerity measures are needed in the business world”, he said, without providing details. He said this is being discussed with Labour Ministry representatives.
In July, Habeck introduced a new power consumption package under a significant reduction of Russian gas supply. At the time, it was said it is important to reduce gas consumption in companies, office buildings, and private households.
The economy ministry now plans to present additional measures related to energy consumption and efficiency in co-operation and co-ordination with other ministries. An initial period of six months has been projected for these measures.
