Former President Donald Trump's son, Eric, seems to have been aware that FBI agents would search his father's apartment.
Eric told Fox News host Sean Hannity that the “purpose of the raid, according to what they said, was because the National Archives wanted, to prove whether Donald Trump had any classified” documents.
In the interview given Monday evening, Trump's son said he was the one Donald Trump warned of the FBI's unprecedented control of the residence in Florida earlier in the day.
I was the guy who got the call this morning. And I called my father and I informed him it happened”, Eric Trump said about the raid.
He confirmed to the media that FBI agents conducted the search to request any possible confidential documents Donald Trump may have in his possession in Mar-a-Lago, after leaving the White House.
He named the search as politically motivated and that his father is “viktim in the investigation”.
To send 30 FBI agents, in fact more than that, down to Mar-a-Lago, without any notice, open the doors, start looting in offices, in closets. You know, they broke into a safe. He didn't even have anything in the box”, Eric Trump said.
Christina Bobb, Trump's lawyer, said the FBI seized documents.
President Trump and his legal team have been co-operating with FBI and DOJ officials at every step. The FBI conducted an unprecedented raid and seized documents,” said Bobb.
CNN reports there was communication between the FBI and the US Secret Service before the search warrant was executed on Monday, allowing The FBI checked the residence without a problem.
CNN said he contacted the FBI to get a comment, but that the Justice Department refused to comment.
A White House official said he was not notified of the raid.
President Joe Biden, said a senior administration official, was unaware of Mar-a-Lago's search until it was reported to the news.
