Fauci, 81, has led the National Institute for Influencing Diseases and Allergy since 1984, serving in the mandate of seven presidents. He was a figure of the United States in response to the coronary and had crashed into Donald Trump's White House in 2020 at the beginning of the crisis because he demanded more restrictions than the administration had decided.
Earlier this year, he said he would resign if Trump managed to restore the presidency from Joe Biden to the 2024 elections.
