China has reiterated its threat of using the military force to take over Taiwan. This announcement, made on August 10th, was made when Beijing's military exercises around Taiwan's self-government island have increased tensions at the highest level in recent years.
In the Taiwan Office for Affairs statement, Beijing “will work with the greatest sincerity, and we will make efforts to bring reunification back peacefully”.
However, we do not rule out access to force and we reserve the possibility of holding all necessary measures. This is done to protect ourselves from external interventions and from all separatist activities”, the statement said.
“We will always be willing to respond using the strength or other means needed to prevent outside forces or radical actions of separatist elements. Our final goal is to ensure the prospects of peaceful reunification and to push ahead this” process, added to the Chinese Office for Taiwan Affairs statement.
China said these threatening movements of it have been prompted by the visit of House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who stayed in Taiwan last week. But Taiwan said it was a routine visit, and China is using it as an excuse to threaten.
China considers Taiwan its province, despite the fact that these two states were divided in 1940 during a civil war. But Beijing insists that this island will come back once. / REL/
