A major explosion has hit a mosque in Afghan capital Cabul, Afghan police have said.
The blast is thought to have occurred during evening prayers, killing at least three people and injuring dozens more.
Khalid Zadran, spokesman for the Taliban police in Kabul, was quoted by local media as saying there had been an explosion in the northwest of the city.
Reports say the imam of Siddiqi mosque was among the dead.
It is unclear who stands behind the attack, which comes a week after a prominent pro-Taliban cleric was killed in a suicide bombing, also in Kabul. I The SIS took responsibility for the previous attack.
Security forces have arrived at the scene, in a northern district of Kabul, the spokesman added.
Italian NGO “Emergency” which operates in Kabul said three deaths have been recorded so far.
The NGO also posted at Tititer saying it had taken 27 people injured in the blast, including children. “Five children among them, including a seven-year-old,” he said.
A Taliban intelligence official told Reuters news agency that as many as 35 persons may have been injured or killed and the number could be further increased.
The Witnesses described a powerful explosion that broke the windows of nearby buildings.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the explosion occurred at a mosque among believers in the Khair Khana area of Kabul, reports the BBC, broadcast Express.
Intelligence teams were in the scene of the explosion, and investigations are continuing, they added.
