Gashi in RTV21 said liberalisation should happen unless any surprises occur.
I just figured, unless there's a surprise, we know this year, it's a war that starts that unfortunately continues in Ukraine, the Russian attack. So unless there's a surprise it would take next year to liberalize visas. Basically this is something our officials believe they know, I'm sure they know”, Gashi said.
He added that this would have to happen a long time ago and is a delayed act.
France, where Gashi has served, is the most sceptical country for visa liberalisation for Kosovo.
Kosovo is the only country in the Western Balkans that does not enjoy visa liberalisation with the EU.
The country, since 2018, has received the recommendation for visa liberalisation, as the Commission has concluded it has fulfilled all criteria.
The commission continues to take that stance, but there are several member states, such as France, expressing reservations for the free movement of Kosovars.
