Eurostat data shows that 55.2 thousand residence permits have been given in 2021 for Albanian citizens in one of the EU countries.
Compared to a year ago, when this process was blocked by pandemic, permits have increased by 47%.
Since 2008, when Eurostat reports the data, EU states have provided a total of 750,000 Albanian citizens to Albanians. Of international institutions, the number of residence permits for citizens of one country is estimated to be immigration.
That figure is ready to be 30% of the population currently living in Albania.
Second immigration cycle from 2015
The first wave of Albanian migration was in the first decade of transition, which began to obtain residence permits after 2000. A total of nearly 100,000 residence permits were granted in 2008, according to Eurostat.
Migration began to fade after 2010, and in 2013 the lowest number of permits began to be recorded, with about 30,000.
Then, in 2015, a new wave of migration began, reflected and on asylum demands in EU countries that reached the record of about 60 thousand that year.
Although asylum demands have dropped in later years, dropping to about 20,000 a year, it turns out that many have found their way out, as residence permits reached 60 thousand a year.
