In Kosovo, according to official data, some 100,000 Serbs live. Of them, according to the AKS, 27983 Serbs live in the central part of Kosovo. While, in the four Serb-populated municipalities in northern Kosovo, an estimated 70 thousand Serb citizens are estimated to live.
According to the CEC, 57983 citizens are middle-aged in four northern municipalities and rightly vote-making. They, so far, have been enabled to vote with UNMIK documents.
In all, however, over 70 percent of Serbian citizens living in Kosovo's four northern municipalities have accepted the state of Kosovo and are equipped with official identifications of the Republic of Kosovo.
Since 2008, when Kosovo has declared Kosovo's independence until now, a total of 50281 Kosovo state IDs for citizens of four Serb majority northern municipalities have been produced.
In addition, patent drivers for them have issued a total of 8703 and a total passport of 6040 pieces.
“Documents such as passports, IDs and RKS drivers' license produced for northern RKS municipalities are as follows: The passport, total 6040. IDs, total 50281. Drivers, total 8703”, are said to respond to this ministry.
The ministry, led by Jedal Svecla, has clarified that they cannot know correctly only the number of documents for the Serb community, as documents are not divided on the basis of nationalities, but we take them as the basis of majority Serb municipalities.
“In the Civil Status Central Regiment, the census is made on demand and we don't have any field that determines the ethnicity of the registry in the Civil Status Central Regiment, so we share as statistics”, said the MPB response.
Asked which years there has been mostly demand by the citizens of the Serb community to obtain documents from the Republic of Kosovo, MPBs showed that more IDs were provided for passports in 2014 and 2020, between 2018 and 2019, and drivers' license in 2018 and 2019.
And if we compare the number of citizens of adulthood, with a fair vote, which in the four Serb majority northern municipalities is 57983 voters, with 50281 equipped with identifications of the Republic of Kosovo, it turns out that close to 90 percent of them recognise the state of Kosovo.
On July 31st and August 1st, local Serbs blocked roads in northern Kosovo to challenge the two decisions of Kurti Government for Serb license plates and documents.
But after the barricades were removed on the afternoon of August 1st, the Kosovo government announced that it delayed implementing decisions for a month.
The first decision concerns re-registering cars that have license plates issued by Serbia, at those RKS (Republic of Kosovo). Kosovo city acronym plates like KM, PZ and similar that are issued by Serbia are considered illegal by Kosovo authorities.
Meanwhile, the second decision has to do with issuing a document for entry and exits for all citizens of Serbia entering Kosovo.
