Floods in parts of Bugisu, Mbele and Kapchorwa initially lost 10 lives Sunday. But the death toll rose further Monday, writes CNN, broadcast Clankosova.tv.
Uganda's Red Cross spokeswoman, Irene Nakasita, told reporters that so far the saviors had recovered 21 troops from Mulka and three others from Kapchorwa.
She said a truck carrying relief supplies was on the way to take care of the displaced in the affected areas.
The torrential rains come immediately after a prolonged drought in large areas of the country that have left many dry and cropland areas.
Uganda's eastern region is prone to flooding after heavy rains, but the whole country is vulnerable to natural disasters.
Intense cloudfalls have led to many casualties in the past.
More than 300 thousand people have been affected by floods and landslides in the Bududa and Sironko ú in both eastern Uganda and Bundibugyo in the western region, according to a report by the United Nations Office on the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
About 65 thousand people have been evacuated, according to the report.
