The government of the United States is aware of a possible threat targeting the world's free Iran summit, which will be held near Durres from July 23rd to July 24,”, says the Embassy's announcement, through which American citizens are directed to avoid this event.
The summit is organised by Iran's National Resistance Council (NCRI) and Iran's People's Mujahedin Organisation (MEK), the two groups that invoke the collapse of Iran's Government
In Albania, near the city of Durres, some 3,000 members of the MEK organization have been sheltered since 2016.
According to a report made a few days ago by these organisations, it is said that “on this summit will take part in hundreds of politicians and deputies known from both sides of the Atlantic and beyond. Tens of thousands of Iranians will join online events from many countries in the world”.
Albania's prime minister, Edi Rama, has said on Thursday that Albania has been the target of a cyber attack by an unfriendly state aimed at all government portals and e-Albania service portal.
Albania's authorities have not yet commented on the same threat.
In January 2020, Albanian authorities ordered the expulsion of two Iranian diplomats who were declared unwanted because one of them was suspected to be a member of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, while the other part of the operational unit of Iranian secret services.
The Ashraf camp near Durres was visited a month earlier by former US Vice President Mike Pence, while former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had visited this camp in May. /rel
