The party of the late former prime minister, that Liberal Democratic, has managed to win these elections firmly.
Vote counting has already ended, but official results have not yet been published by Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“We must defend free and fair elections, which are the basis of democracy”, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has said on Friday, adding that the party will continue with the conviction that it will not succumb to violence.
As reported, the LPD won at least 63 seats, more than half the 125 total.
This victory strengthens Kishida's political base and can help her move forward with key policy issues, including the revision of Japan's pacifist Constitution.
Hours after the closure of polling stations Sunday, Kishida said the elections have been in danger due to violence.
Former Prime Minister Abe died Friday after being shot in the town of Naras while giving a speech in support of LDP candidates.
