This project to have at the new Port of Porto Romano and a special military fortress Prime Minister Edi Rama will discuss on Wednesday (July 13th with the alliance's Secretary General at a meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
The Albanian government wants to be helped financially by the alliance for this military knot in the Adriatic Sea, but still there is no concrete figure of how much construction can cost a fortress that will satisfy all NATO military needs.
Television Klan has learned that the initial project envisions this military area within the Durres trade port to cover 50 ha, while the kalata itself has a capacity of 800m linear, with a depth of 13 metres in order to dock and major battleships.
Construction of this base has been discussed, and at the recent NATO summit by the prime minister and defence minister, what is taught that the idea has not gone unnoticed. That is why he agreed to the meeting of NATO Secretary General and the head of the Albanian government.
If this project were to be accomplished, it would turn Porto Romano into a key military point for the connection between Eastern and Western Europe.
The base would enable and military exercises of NATO forces of size of Defender 2021, the US-led military forces' largest exercise with the participation of armies of several countries held in the Adriatic Sea. You can see the video right here:
