Meta for the start of negotiations: Institutions to Reflect Without Delay on Tasks

Albania's outgoing president, Ilir Meta, has welcomed the European Union's decision to officially launch the negotiations process with Albania.

Meta has this day called it historical for Albanians and the region, while calling on institutions to reflect without delay on their duties.

“Today is a fine day, a cornerstone for Albanians. This shows that our region continues to enjoy European support. That's a clear signal of support. Today is a crucial day for the future, a day when we must face reality as it is. The truth is, we've lost a lot of time. This reveals all our flaws, bad deeds. The Netherlands's concerns, France's remarks, or all the concerns expressed in the EP's latest resolution, show that transformation requires work”.

I urge citizens not to fall prey to campaigns that want to undermine our path to the EU. The European route is the only guarantee that our common home will have the prosperity that our citizens seek in Italy, Britain, Germany, etc. I call on institutions to reflect without delay on the tasks required. It is up to us to have this process lasting 5-30 or more years”, Meta said.
