Zelensky accepted the award through a video connection during a ceremony by Johnson's office that was conveyed by members of the Churchill family, Ukrainian Ambassador Vadym Prystaiko and Ukrainian soldiers who were trained by British soldiers.
Johnson recalled how Zelensky had confirmed the Russian invasion on February 24th, adding: “at that time of crisis, you faced a leadership test, in its own way, as difficult as Churchill's challenge in 1940”.
On the other hand, Zelensky thanked the prime minister and the British people for their support.
The two had established a close relationship since Johnson became the first Western leader to visit Ukraine after the Russian invasion. Earlier this month, Zelensky had expressed frustration at Johnson's departure from the Conservative Party following several scandals. /Periscopi/
