Nine cities are on the country's highest alert for the heat wave, which warns of serious weather-related health risks from five on Tuesday. The capital is expected to grow on 14 Thursday, including Rome, Milan and Florence, and 16 Friday.
The temperatures are projected to reach 40 degrees Celsius in a northern part and centre this week, as well as in Pulia in the south and islands of Sardinia and Sicily.
The fire that broke out Monday evening near the town of Luca has not died out yet, and has already destroyed some 600 hectares of forest.
