At least six people were killed and eight others injured when part of the glacier ice fell apart and slipped onto a mountainside in northeastern Italy on Sunday.
The ice crashed into a group of more than 40 climbers fleeing a popular path. Ten people are reportedly still missing.
Five rescue helicopters and dozens of alpine search-saving specialists, including rescue dogs, have been deployed on the scene at Mount Marmolada in Dolomites.
“Akullna was destabilised at its base due to the large availability of oil melted after weeks with extremely high temperatures and above the average”, the Alpin-Adriatic Meteorological Association wrote on Twitter, posting also ice avalanche videos.
