Disturbing. Over 2,000 people have given up Kosovo's citizenship within the first six months of this year

In the first six months of this year, January-June 2022, 2,210 people have given up their citizenship from the Republic of Kosovo.

So has the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo announced in a written response to Telegrafi.

“in the January-June 2022 period has been released from the citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo 2210 persons”, the Ministry of Internal Affairs states.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Internal Affairs says the reason citizens are giving up on Kosovo's citizenship is that many European Union countries where they live do not allow them to have two citizenships.

“Arsyet why people give up the citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo, is because many European Union states do not allow two citizenships, including some states that are not part of the European Union”, the MPB response reported.

According to this ministry, they are obliged to be freed from previous citizenships if they want to gain the country's citizenship.

After a large number of our citizens have been living for years in these countries, and a large number have even been born in these countries, and as a result, they have earned the right to grant citizenship and are obliged to be freed from previous citizenship in case they want to gain the citizenship of that country. So the main reason is the ban on citizenship in many countries”.

According to the data, on average a year from Kosovo's citizenship, more than 5,000 citizens have been released. The citizenship release trend has marked raises since 2014.
