The new US aid aims to strengthen Ukraine after facing heavy blows from Russian artillery, the telegram broadcast.
Since the February 24th invasion, Russian forces have taken control of a large portion of the territory throughout Ukraine's southern Crimean Wing, which Russia annexed in 2014. Russia is slowly pushing Ukrainian forces outside two Russian-backed rebel regions of eastern Ukraine, which has recognised them as independent states.
A senior US defence official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said additional systems HIMARS would take the total number of these systems to 12.
“Ukraina has now successfully hit Russian locations in Ukraine, deeper behind front lines and disrupting Russia's ability to perform that artillery operation”, the official said.
The official added that all HIMARS donated to Ukraine were accounted for after Russia's Defence Ministry early this week said it had destroyed two systems HIMARS and their ammunition depots in eastern Ukraine.
