European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell says the European Union will not be complete without the Western Balkans in it.
Borrell made that statement at the opening of Albania and Northern Macedonia's membership negotiations in the EU, Klankosova reports.tv.
Now we're finally starting a process that you've worked on and you've been waiting a long time for it, taking time for major geopolitical changes, tectonic changes. We're moving forward towards strategic and historical decisions, we regret to stand on the increased roots of history and we're witnessing the changes in our geostrategics and you're part of it”.
Among other things, Borrell said that the northern Macedonia route towards the EU has been starting since 2005.
I strongly believe that we are advanced only with the Western Balkans, and the European Union will not be complete without you”.
“Today, there is great progress that will be crucial for northern Macedonia and the Western Balkans, for the European Union. I was president of the European Parliament in 2005 when the prime minister of Northern Macedonia at the time received a positive opinion from the European Commission, was 2005 17 years ago”, Borrell said.
